Joanne has been practising as a barrister since 2010, specialising in cases with a human rights dimension, including crime, extradition and immigration. Before she entered practice she worked as a judicial fellow assigned to the judges in charge of the Asylum List. In her early years of practice she was part of the external panel established by ORAC to help address a backlog of subsidiary protection applications, and subsequently refugee status determinations, and she has been a part-time member of the International Protection Appeals Tribunal since 2018.  She also delivers training as a ‘judicial expert’ for the European Union Asylum Agency.
