IACBA Annual Conference 2025

The IACBA Annual Conference took place on Friday, 12th December in the Atrium of the Distillery Building, bringing together practitioners, experts and members of the judiciary for an engaging afternoon of discussion and analysis. This years theme was Migration and the Rule of Law.


Attendees heard opening remarks from Aoife McMahon BL, Chair of IACBA, and The Hon. Ms Justice Niamh Hyland, followed by a comprehensive update on recent CJEU caselaw from Mr. Justice Eugene Regan.



The conference explored key developments in immigration and asylum law, including applications for residency by non‑EEA parents (Karen Berkeley), appellate reform and the Migration Pact (Joanne Williams BL), and powerful personal reflections from author Mir Rahimi.

























After a short break, the afternoon continued with expert contributions from Úna McEvoy, David Leonard

BL, Anthony Hanrahan SC, and Patricia Brazil SC, addressing Protocol 21, partial certiorari, deportation enforcement, and the impact of G & M v IPAT respectively. The conference concluded with lively Q&A sessions and closing remarks at 5.30pm, marking another successful and thought‑provoking event for the association.
