The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum: From Paper to Practice

On the 5th of June 2026 the Immigration & Asylum Bar Association and the Irish Centre for Human Rights held their annual joint conference at the University of Galway. The conference focused on key issues arising from the implementation of the EU Pact on Immigration and Asylum law which would become applicable in June/July 2026. the programme examined reception conditions, the new border procedure, unaccompanied minors, appeals procedures and related developments. The conference was chaired by The Hon. Ms. Justice Mary Faherty and speakers including: Professor Iris Goldner Lang, from the University of Zagreb, Professor Ciara Smyth from the University of Galway, Jyothi Kanics who is the Director of Policy and Advocacy for Europe, David Conlan Smyth SC, Andrew Robinson BL and Grace Tierney BL.
