Borders & Barriers: Assisting Vulnerable Applicants in International Protection and Immigration Law


This CPD focused on Applicants with vulnerabilities in various contexts including gender-based violence, the rights of the child, and human trafficking. The concept of vulnerability was explored, it’s applicability, and assisting Applicants with vulnerabilities in a broad range of international protection and immigration related matters was considered and discussed. We were delighted to hear from our expert speakers in relation to these important and highly topical matters.

  • Céile Varley BL discussed vulnerable witnesses and gender-based violence, including considerations of domestic violence & human trafficking.

  • Ciara Smyth, University of Galway discussed the principle of the best interests of the child and how to interpret it from a rights-based perspective.
